So you've probably heard about the possible Canada Post strike. Well Canada post workers are increasing the pressure, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has announced that they will switch to a three day a week mail delivery cycle starting June 13, 2011. Most cities will now only receive mail delivery 3x a week, unless you are in rural Canada (yours stays the same since it's separate). Mail served by carriers will only receive deliveries of letters, advertisement mail and small parcels on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only. What does this mean? waiting longer to get your mail! If you order online, I know that I do, it means a delay. Or if you receive coupons and freebies in the mail (surely you do) that will no doubt be affected too. In terms of bill payments, I do all mine online so no worries there. I hope Canada Post gets it together, strikes aren't fun.

thats retarded! they make enough $ as it is. what do they have to complain about
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so angry. They make so much money considering what they do - and have great benefits already. This strike is total nonsense GRRR!
ReplyDeleteIt's not all about money. From one thing I heard is they are fighting for sick time and everyone deserves a good sick policy.
ReplyDeletethis is really unfair considering that incoming mail already takes a while to get to its destination to begin with.
ReplyDeleteThe focus of the strikes is not on wages but on workers’ health and safety, staffing and service expansion. The want to keep the benefits that they have and have safer working conditions. I support the postal workers, especially the carriers, and I hope they get what they ask for. I've seen my postal carrier walking out there in -40C and pouring rain just so that I can get my mail..
ReplyDeleteActually, if you pay close attention, you're probably getting your mail under 5 times per week anyway (unless items come xpresspost). Thursday is the big day here. All kinds of things will arrive today that theoretically should have come Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if businesses that already charge for shipping just switched to a new provider.
It's actually Canada Post who decided on the three day delivery schedule after seeing a sharp drop off in volume and business.
ReplyDeleteAll I mostly get in the mail these days are junk, so I don't really care if they switch to a three day sched permanently. Maybe then I wouldn't have to wheel out my recycling bin to the curb as often :D
