Recap: TLC's Extreme Couponing Episode 11 Joanie and Angelique

Are you still watching the TLC show "Extreme Couponing"? I go in and out of watching it. I have don't have cable, so I have to download all my television, so I forget about shows that aren't really my favourite, this show is more entertaining for it's shock value than anything else! I just finished watching this past Wednesday's episode, and here is my recap.

Joanie - 43, has one of the biggest shopping trips so far, she got over $3100 of stuff for only $45. She spent apparently 6 hours in the store for that shopping trip. I can imagine spending 6 hours at the mall, but in one store? She had her purchases carefully planned out and had 8 shopping separate transactions organized since there was a limit of how many of a certain item she could buy. She donates a lot of items because she can understand how hard it can be, she went through a divorce herself.

Angelique - 29 is in love with couponing, the excitement that comes from it. She works full time and still hits the stores early in the morning at times. She's never tried Couscous, but she gets 134 boxes because she can get it for free, she explains how you have to be willing to try new things to get a deal. She uses a raincheck that she had on toothpaste and gets the smaller sized tubes to get the best deal. At the end, the store ended up paying her money back on her purchase, and she didn't pay anything! The average coupon redemption is $1.46 according to the show, but these couponers get much for value for their coupons. She explains how important it is to watch when the cashiers ring in everything because one small mistake can cause her pay hundreds that she doesn't need to.

What I don't understand is, why cashiers on this show always scan every item, if they have x amount of a product they go through and actually scan each one. If I buy more than one of an item (keep in mind I never buy hundreds of the same thing!) I just tell the cashier that I have whatever amount of it, and get them to scan one.

Did you watch this episode?

  1. I watch it here & there when I catch it. I did see this weeks episode & didn't mind it. Gotta be honest though, some of the women on there are horrible... I hate it when the women clear out the shelves for items they don't need/use... it's greedy & selfish.

  2. @Carla - I agree with you, I can't imagine the looks that I would get if I took all there was in the store of an item. The two episodes before this one the women actually called ahead and pre-ordered boxes and boxes of items so that they wouldn't clear the shelves, I guess that was nice at least.
